Choosing the Light
Reading: Matthew 5:14-16 - “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Ephesians 5:8-14 - For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper,
    rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

Devotional: Jesus not only claimed to be the light of the world—He called His followers to be light as well. "You are the light of the world," He declared. This means light isn't just something we receive; it's something we reflect and become.

Every day presents a choice: will we turn toward the light or settle into darkness? Fear leads to anger, anger to hate, hate to suffering. But faith leads to hope, hope to love, love to abundant life. The path we choose determines not just our destination but our daily experience.

Being light doesn't mean we've conquered all darkness within us. It means we've made the choice to follow Jesus despite the darkness that remains. We cry out, "I believe; help my unbelief!" and take the next step toward Him.

Consider: What small choice can you make today to turn toward the light? Perhaps it's choosing honesty over hiding, forgiveness over resentment, or vulnerability over self-protection. Choose light.
